Procedures & Treatment
Sclerotherapy is a medical technique to improve the appearance of the legs by removing unattractive varicose and spider veins.
After cleansing the skin with an antiseptic solution, Dr.Vogel uses an extremely fine needle to inject the offending vein and/or network of veins. This causes irritation and subsequent destruction of the veins. An ice pack is placed on the area to reduce discomfort and to intensify the action of the sclerosant. A typical session takes thirty to forty minutes and the patient can return to work or normal activity immediately. Heavy exercise is discouraged for two to three days.
It may take several days to several weeks to see results (which are usually permanent). Bruising and discoloration can take several weeks to resolve, but with their resolution satisfaction with the results is readily apparent. Because new veins may appear, patients are encouraged to maintain their successful appearance by having the new areas periodically sclerosed.
