& Treatment

Unwanted facial or body hair is problematic: when either excessive hair occurs or when patients are tired of temporary removal, Laser Hair Removal offers a procedure that permanently destroys the follicle.
Candidates
The ideal candidate is a patient where there is contrast between hair color and skin color: the darker the hair and the lighter the skin, the more successful the approach. Patients are advised to avoid direct sun exposure both before and after treatment. Although it may take a number of treatments, each session usually yields less and more finer hair each time. Patients with razor bumps are usually delighted with results in that many of the symptoms related to hair growth are diminished or eliminated.
Locations
Face, back, underarms, bikini area, legs, abdomen, neck, and shoulders are the most commonly sought areas for Laser Hair Removal. However, any area with excessive growth can be treated.
Results
Immediately after the procedure, there can be some redness and tenderness. These usually disappear spontaneously after several days. Patients can resume all normal activities almost immediately after treatment. Sun exposure should be limited both before and after the procedure and this will be discussed at the time of the visit. Laser Hair Removal results are apparent immediately, although hair may continue to grow during the treatment period. Some hair may persist, but the destruction of successfully Lasered Hair is permanent. Through repeated sessions (separated by four to eight weeks apart), permanently diminished and absent hair growth is the usual outcome.
Complications
Even the safest procedures have a risk. In our experience, pigmentation abnormality is the most common side effect of Laser Hair Removal. We endeavor to diminish this by pretreating in some patients and by using stringent sun protection for all others. Some patients may require testing with different laser power settings. Other reported problems have included incomplete hair removal, regrowth of hair, blistering, scarring and change in skin texture. However, the most common issue is the reappearance of new hair after the procedure. This can be treated by additional sessions.
